Apparently, the NHPD issued a parking ban today for BOTH sides of Orange St. down to Willow and a 2-3 block radius in both directions. This will obviously be inconveniencing hundreds of residents who now can't park near their home tomorrow. I called City Hall and the NHPD, but no one's been able to tell me where we can alternatively park tomorrow beyond finding "somewhere that doesn't have a parking ban sign" or how long the ban is in effect. I don't recall this type of ban ever being instated before, let alone for the 4th, and I'm not sure why they can't just block off the intersections to only allow residents to park at their homes. Or, why they can't leave at least one side open for us residents. Why hasn't the City of New Haven Emergency Operation Center notified anyone? (We get calls from them all the time about every other parking ban). We have elderly citizens and moms with infants who need to park close to home. Perhaps someone can advise.
